PROGRAM 2025

OPERA & MUSIC THEATER

TOSCA

OPERA IN THREE ACTS BY GIACOMO PUCCINI

Tosca’s price of freedom – infamous betrayal and political abuse of power

Rome around 1800 – it’s a pity that love doesn’t always triumph over violence and intrigue. The opera singer Tosca’s deep devotion to the rebellious painter Cavaradossi leads to her fatal undoing: when the tyrannical police chief Scarpia wants her all to himself, she becomes the victim of a brutal regime. Tosca fights bravely and intelligently for dignity and freedom, but betrayal knows no mercy. In the end, everyone is dead – the lover, the tyrant and Tosca herself – through a bold but fatal leap from the Castel Sant’Angelo. Tosca chooses death as her final act of autonomy. Free, but dead. Giacomo Puccini’s music makes hearts tremble and tears flow.

LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR

OPERA IN THREE ACTS BY GAETANO DONIZETTI

Forbidden love, madness and a bloody wedding night

Heavy fog lies over the Scottish moors and cold castles of the 18th century. In Donizetti’s opera, nature is a mirror of inner turmoil – you can hear that. The young Lucia falls in love with the arch-enemy of the family. This prompts her power-hungry brother to spin evil intrigues. A love drama with a bloody ending. Loving Edgardo but having to marry the unloved Arturo drives Lucia to sheer madness. On her wedding night, she stabs the bridegroom and sings herself into madness. Donizetti’s bel canto gem combines virtuosity with tragedy. One more opera in which love ends fatally and music becomes immortal

THE MAGIC FLUTE

OPERA IN TWO ACTS BY WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART

IN GERMAN LANGUAGE

Mozart’s magic returns to Immling’s stage

It is the work that started it all. Thirty years ago, Ludwig Baumann, who himself played the role of Papageno 367 times on stages all over the world, wanted to perform Mozart’s Magic Flute at a quarry pond. Rehearsals went on for weeks. Then came the rain – and the ingenious idea of moving the event to the newly built indoor riding arena. The IMMLING FESTIVAL was born! The “Magic Flute” is therefore a must in this anniversary year. Look forward to a thrilling production and embark on an adventurous journey with Prince Tamino and his companion Papageno. A fantastic story about love, wisdom, courage, friendship and unforgettable arias.

UN BALLO DIE MASCERA

OPERA IN THREE ACTS BY GIUSEPPE VERDI

Ménage à trois with fatal consequences: “A Masked Ball” with an insight into the art of deception

Once upon a time in Boston, USA, at the end of the 17th century. Admittedly, it’s a wild story: a governor falls in love with the wrong woman, namely his best friend. Although a fortune teller predicts what will happen, the drama continues unabated. The friend mutates into a murderer, his wife is morally trapped and emotionally torn apart. At the bitter end, she involuntarily becomes complicit in the murder of her lover. Verdi stages the glittering masked ball as an operatic thriller full of dazzling arias.

The fatal finale is the final highlight.

LARGE ORCHESTRA CONCERTS

MESSA DA REQUIEM

BY GIUSEPPE VERDI

IN LATIN LANGUAGE

A requiem like an operatic drama – full of passion, pain and hope. Verdi wrote his poignant work in memory of the poet Alessandro Manzoni, whom he greatly admired. The premiere took place in Milan in 1874 and was conducted by Verdi himself. The “Messa da Requiem” will feature international and Georgian soloists, the festival orchestra and choir, the Georgian Sinfonietta, the Batumi Choir, the Georgian State Choir Tbilisi and the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Cornelia von Kerssenbrock. The first performance will take place on April 8, 2026 as the opening of the “Tbilisi Choral Music International Festival” in Georgia, the second on August 2, 2026 at the IMMLING FESTIVAL.

The project deliberately sets an example for cultural exchange and understanding in Europe. Verdi’s work becomes a medium for making themes such as transience, hope and community tangible across national and cultural borders, especially in times of geopolitical tensions.
