The Threepenny Opera

This shark has a bite. Brecht and Weill’s songs still spark punchlines today. Her texts expose human depths. They hold up a mirror to us and raise questions: Who are the real gangsters in society? Who prostitutes themselves for whom? Who or what is really “poor”? “First comes the food, then comes the morale”. Does morality even come after eating? Brecht was 30 years old when he wrote his opera critical of capitalism and, together with Weill’s cross-genre compositions of tango, jazz, blues elements and fairground music, landed one of the greatest theatrical successes of the 20th century.
